ABSTRACT
The issues covered by the school literature course are not only numerous, but also complex in content. This is one of the important aspects that make it necessary to carry out consistent research on that course. There is another side to the issue: the emergence of new teaching approaches, tech-nologies one after the other makes it important to carry out research without slowing down. From what has been said, it is clear that it is useful to return to a number of problems of methodology, to look at them from a different perspec-tive in the light of modern scientific ideas. One of such important areas is historical-literary materials − review topics. Review materials covering the long development path of literary history are distinguished by the abundance of facts and richness of content. It is not easy to teach and master general topics that reflect the socio-political situation, literary and cultural landscape of a certain historical period. It is important to carry out serious preparatory work related to the teaching of these subjects, and to keep students' independence in the center of attention. The article focuses more on the types and options of the overview topics, and the interpretation of different ways of teaching them is given a lot of space.
