About the grammatical status of the words as if, as though, supposedly

ABSTRACT 

The article is devoted to an issue considered a problem in Azerbaijani linguistics ‒ the use of punctuation marks in words as if, as though, supposedly. This is important both from a scientific and didactic point of view. Lately, in textbooks and textbooks, the phrases that have been added to the title are considered "modal words written without commas". The article argues with the facts that this opinion has no scientific basis. On the one hand, the scientific literature and textbooks on punctuation in the Azerbaijani language were widely analyzed, and on the other hand, it was explained from different levels that this wrong idea contradicts the philosophy of modal words. The genesis of the phrase "modal words written without commas" was analyzed. As if, as though, supposedly  the reasons why modal words are not separated and differentiated in the sentence have been determined. Finally, it has been pointed out that it is important to separate or distinguish modal words as if, as though, supposedly in a sentence.
