ABSTRACT
Language is a phenomenon of a social nature and basically an existence of society. The Azerbaijani language is one of the languages with a colorful and rich semantic system. Nouns are one of the word groups that contain the richness of the vocabulary of the Azerbaijani language. Special preference was given to etymological studies in the study of root words. Studies show that monosyllabic noun roots are older than polysyllabic nouns. Most polysyllabic nouns are formed from monosyllabic roots. With this, polysyllabic nouns have passed a special stage of development and enriched the vocabulary of the language. In the article, an etymological analysis of nouns is carried out based on examples presented from Jalil Mammadguluzade's "My Mother's Book".
