ABSTRACT
Throughout history, first people began to widely use first names, and then surnames. Nicknames have been used more recently. Nicknames are a fact of social life. Nicknames are also used in fiction for stylistic purposes, to describe a character's outlook and other characteristics. We witness the extensive use of nicknames in the works of Turkish and Azerbaijani writers. In the article, the novels ("Onunju koy", "Tirpan") included in the artistic work of Fakir Baykurt, one of the famous Turkish writers, and the nicknames in the stories of Isa Mughanna ("Kollu kokha", "Sheppali") are involved in a comparative analysis. Thus, in the article, we analyzed the linguistic and stylistic features of nicknames in the Azerbaijani and Turkish languages. Nicknames used in both Turkish and Azerbaijani languages differ in terms of their lexicalsemantic nuances. These nicknames reflect the character's appearance, physical and psychological aspects.
