ABSTRACT
One of the main tasks of language teaching is to form the ability in students to express what they read, hear, and see in oral and written form in accordance with the norms of the literary lan-guage. In the modern era, the content of education is characterized by increased attention to the problem of the development of oral and written coherent speech of schoolchildren. Currently, special importance is attached to the communicative education of schoolchildren, because their success in speech development determines the effectiveness of mastering other subjects, creates opportunities for students to actively participate in public life, equips them with the necessary speech skills, and paves the way for the acquisition of speech culture. However, today, our ob-servations in Azerbaijani language classes in primary grades of a number of schools and con-versations with class teachers show that not enough attention is paid to the formation of coherent speech skills in students. The teachers do not notice the vagueness, incompleteness, inaccuracy and simplicity in the expression of students' thoughts, and no work is planned to be done in this regard. The article identifies the errors found in the essays of primary school students, empha-sizes the need to organize work in preparation for essays, and highlights the activities to address this issue.
