ABSTRACT
The article provides systematic information about the adverb, which has become one of the main parts of speech in the grammatical system of the Azerbaijani language and the Turkic languages as a whole. The study shows that although the adverb group has become a sufficient object of research in Turkological linguistics, it has not been completely cleared of lexical units belonging to other parts of speech, figuratively speaking. The main reason for this is, first of all, the incorrect selection of the principles used in the classification of parts of speech when determining the boundaries of the adverb. Thus, while lexical-semantic and morphological principles were taken as the basis for the division of other main parts of speech, the syntactic principle, which has an auxiliary function, was used as a criterion in the classification of the adverb. An inadequate approach has led to a diversity of opinions in the interpretation of the types of lexical meaning of the adverb as well as its lexical meaning. As a result, some research works mention five types of adverbs, and some - four. It is even stated that the number of types of adverbs in Turkic languages sometimes reaches seven. In order to eliminate the contradictions and confusion observed in this area during the research process, it is brought to the attention that in accordance with the nature of the grammatical structure of the Turkic languages, it is necessary to apply lexical-semantic and morphological principles in the classification of adverbs, as in other main parts of speech. The article also clarifies the content of the lexical meaning types of adverbs based on the application of the indicated principle. Based on the facts noted during the research process, the words included in the adverb group are grouped according to style, time, place and degree types, unlike previous classifications.
