ABSTRACT
First known for
his poetry, and later for his essays and stories, Mir Jalal soon gained fame as
a talented and original writer. Living at the same time as such well-known
masters of the word as Samad Vurghun, Suleyman Rahimov, Suleyman Rustam, Mehdi
Huseyn, the writer distinguished himself from his colleagues with his writing
style and brought a new breath to Azerbaijani literature. We would not be
mistaken if we say that a number of achievements of 20th century Azerbaijani
literature are associated with the name of Mir Jalal. He took a worthy place in
the history of Azerbaijani literature as an outstanding prose writer during his
creative activity. Only with the work “Manifesto of a Young Man” did Mir Jalal
maintain his position among classical artists. When getting acquainted with his
creative world, it can be concluded that the issues that made the writer think
were vital, national folklore, folk thinking, the development of national-moral
values in accordance with classical traditions, and the problems arising in
this direction. Just as one feels the power of poetry when reading Sabir, and
the power of satire and humor when reading Mirza Jalil, the reader experiences
the same feelings when reading Mir Jalal's stories. Along with his stories, his
novels also occupy an important place in the writer's creativity. His first
large-scale work, the novel "The Resurrected Man", was published as a
separate book in 1935. Academician Mammad Arif once wrote about the writer:
"With "The Resurrected Man", Mir Jalal showed himself to be a
careful realist writer."
