Mikayil Mushfig’s Lyrical Poetry

ABSTRACT
The article studies the work of Mikayil Mushfig, a
prominent poet of Azerbaijani literature, and his role in the development of
Azerbaijani Soviet literature is outlined. The poems published during the
period when the writer began his literary activity (1930–1935) glorify the
human image, creative nature, and struggle. It is emphasized that the poet used
new poetic forms and means of expression in these poems, and benefited from
literary traditions. The poems “Rana’s Death” and “Afshan” artistically reflect
the struggle between the old and the new, the stubborn struggle of the new
forces in the person of Rana and Afshan against the remnants of the scumbags,
and their eventual victory. The article analyzes the place of the theme of
friendship of peoples, one of the main ideas of Soviet literature, in Mikayil
Mushfig’s work. The study examines and analyzes the poet’s poem “Mother,” a
number of poetic examples created by him in a lyrical landscape, as well as
poems written on the theme of love. The article conducts a scientific polemic,
and the analyses are based on selected examples from the poet's poems.
