ABSTRACT
The article deals
with the semantic explanation of words that are
unfamiliar and considered relatively difficult for primary school students. In
the course of this process a word used in its appropriate context is the most
profound carrier of meaning. In Azerbaijani language teaching,
work focused on the semantic features of words has always been of great
importance. Especially in primary grades, the
subject of Azerbaijani language creates a foundation for
students to approach every word of their native language with sensitivity,
respect, and love. In the course of this process, young students become more
deeply acquainted with their mother tongue and explore and learn its nuances.
The group of difficult words for primary school
students includes terms, scientific concepts, neologisms, calques, dialectisms,
poetic words, borrowed words, obsolete words, rarely used words, words whose
spelling differs from pronunciation, phraseological expressions, archaisms,
newly coined words with unfamiliar meanings, homonyms, homographs, paronyms,
homoforms, anthroponyms, etc. Unless these words are fully mastered, each of
them remains a “difficult word” and becomes a barrier to the development of
students' speech culture.
